ABOUT
ABOUT OCI
Orange County Independent Ensembles began in 2010 with Founder and Director Sean Cunningham.
Sean had three goals:
Give the performers a fun, safe, and educational place to participate in the indoor percussion activity
Put a strong program together that will hold up competitively
Establish longevity
Since that first year, Orange County Independent Ensembles has successfully operated 5 different programs, won several Southern California Percussion Alliance Championships, and Medaled 8 times in PIO, WIW, and PIW at the Winter Guard International World Championships.
Returning to the competitive floor in 2024, we hope to build on our legacy and hope that everyone enjoys our product.
2024 will see the return of Orange County Independent Percussion to SCPA and WGI PIO competition! Join us in our long legacy of competing at the highest levels and experience the trip to the Winter Guard International Championships in Dayton Ohio.
FAQ
Can I attend the clinics just to learn?
You are welcome to come to the clinics just to learn and experience what OCI is like without actually auditioning. You would come to the clinic and just let the instructor know you do not intend to audition.
What is the age limit?
As per WGI stipulations, performers shall not be over 22 years of age as of 12:01 AM on April 1, 2024. There is not a bottom age limit to audition or attend the clinics, though most performers who end up making the ensemble tend to be age 18+.
Can I do a video audition?
We occasionally have performers who live far away submit a video audition, which is approved on a case by case basis. If you're a contender for a spot, you will need to attend the second audition in person. Email orangecountyindependent@gmail.com if you are interested in this option.
What are the audition requirements for the visual ensemble (VE)?
VE auditionees will be contacted about their audition expectations closer to auditions.
Can I audition even if I don't live near Orange County?
Yes! We encourage individuals from across the country (or the globe!) to participate in our auditions. While OCP mainly practices and performs in SoCal, every year we have members from around the country. In the past, we've also had members from Belgium, Japan, and Colombia. If you earn a spot, you'll have to make arrangements to move to SoCal or drive/carpool if you live within driving distance.
What is the cost to audition?
The audition fee is $60 and includes clinics, registration, and an audition packet.
